Inspiration: Victor Safonkin

In many of my projects i have looked at, and studied the artwork of surrealist artist Victor Safonkin. His work has inspired me in many of my projects to broaden my mind, and sort of let myself go with my own artwork, whether this leads me to draw/paint strange landscapes or creatures the way i see fit, or to manipulate my own photographs to give them a darker deeper feeling.

In this post ill show you some of this artists work so you can see where i'm coming from, and maybe understand how i get my inspiration.

Before that though id just like to explain why and how i was drawn to his work. The first piece of work i ever saw by him and appreciated was a piece called 'Inhuman Rearing', which was the album cover for Killing Joke's 'Hosannas from the basement of Hell' of which i own myself. From then on i've always been interested in his work and do my best to keep up with his most recent work. He has always painted very apocalyptic looking pieces, with vast landscapes and huge, very detailed characters. Some of which are either very beautiful characters, such as the women he paints, or very evil looking, demonised men and animals. Its the attention to detail that enthrals me every time i look at his work, much like another artist Frank Frazetta which i will talk about in another post.

But for now this is some of his work including 'Inhuman Rearing'
